Alternative Common Names

River oak, river she-oak, creek oak, fire oak.

Medium sized tree to 12-30m high, with slender jointed branches. Bird attracting.

Leaves - reduced to 8-10cm jointed scales sheathing the joints of the branchlets.

Flowers - small, the male flowers in dense spikes, the females forming a compact head.

Fruit - crowded, in a small globular cone about 8mm diameter with several rows of inconspicuous valves which open to release the light brown winged nuts.

Flowering possibly at any time of the year.

Habitat

Banks of creeks and rivers.
