Alternative Common Names

giant saltbush, cabbage saltbush

Large, grey, scaly, drought tolerant shrub usually to about 2 m high and occasionally 4-5 m across. Potential uses are for fodder, soil rehabilitation and firebreaks.

Leaves - stalked, almost circular to broadly ovate, 10-25 mm long, the margins shallowly toothed.

Flowers - dioecious ie. with male and female flowers on separate plants. On the end of branches in panicles.

Flowering mostly spring-early summer.

Habitat

Predominantly on clay soils, usually in flat or low lying situations, but found on practically all soils and at all levels.
