Alternative Common Names

Much branched leafy shrub, about 1m high.

Leaves - alternate, each composed of 5-13 leaflets arranged along a common axis, the leaflets flat, linear, 3-5mm long except for the minute terminal leaflet, the axis narrowly winged between the leaflets.

Flowers - inconspicuous, without petals, male and female flowers on septate plants.

Fruit - brown or bright-red capsule, 7-8mm across, with 4 vertical wings, 2-3 mm wide, borne on a stalk longer than the capsule.

Flowering spring.

Habitat

Shallow sandy soils on rocky hillside. Rare.
