Flower - heads inflorescence spike-like, becoming well exserted, loose to quite dense, usually 7–18 cm long, 15–30 mm wide. Spikelets closely overlapping, 2.5–11 mm long (excluding bristles).

Flowering in response to rain.

Habitat

Grows on water run-on areas on heavy self-mulching clays.
